Scope
This course was initiated for ratings to be knowledgeable and competent in handling the steering wheel or helm of the ship. Steering courses as per command or order from the Master or navigating officer must not be taken for granted as this is one specific work of a helmsman to be alert at all time, has the knowledge to understand command orders. Thus, avoiding accident in an open sea, channels, and straits and or maneuvering during anchoring, docking and undocking in port.
Objectives
Those successfully completing this course shall be able to demonstrate precision in steering and be reliable thereby achieving a vital function in the Bridge Team.
Trainees would be able to improve their steering capabilities as this course also provides refresher for deck ratings in case on their shipboard appraisals this area must be improved.
